Second Call for Tutorials

Send proposals and other inquiries via e-mail to: csb7_tutor@lifesciencessociety.org. Completed Proposals for tutorials are due by Midnight Pacific Time on Thursday, May 31, 2007. Notifications now planned for first week of June.
The tutorials with be offered on Monday August 13, 2007 at the CSB conference site at UCSD in La Jolla, CA. There will be two 3-hour sessions (morning and afternoon) each featuring several tutorials in parallel. Your presentation should be approximately 2.5 hours, to allow for a fifteen minute break for refreshments and to allow some time for attendees questions.
The tutors agree to provide participants with access to all presentation materials including copies of the slides and supplementary materials. If materials are received by us in timely fashion, we will make copies. An original copy (or standard electronic version) of the complete materials for distribution to attendees must be received by the tutorial organizers by July 28, 2007.
Proposals should contain the following information:
• Tutorial title
• Expected goals and objectives
• Abstract
• Outline of the presentation
• Intended audience
• Cite relevant qualifications and teaching experience of proposed presenters
The selection committee will consider the following criteria in the selection process, and will evaluate all submissions:
• Relevance, interest, and value of the topic to attendees
• Expertise and experience of the presenters in the proposed topic
• Presentation quality
Note that the range of suggested topics includes most of computational biology. The conference's goal is to facilitate exchange of ideas and collaborations between computer scientists and biologists by presenting cutting-edge computational biology research findings. Your tutorial can best support these goals by targeting members of each of these communities, and offering them insight to understand and appreciate current research.
As a guide to some possible tutorial topics, note that the program committee explicitly solicited papers in the following areas:
Translational Research, Pattern Recognition, Metagenomics, Microbial community analysis, Drug Discovery, Mathematical and quantitative
models of cellular and multicellular systems, Chemical Genetics, Synthetic Biological Systems, RNAi, Sequence Alignment, Bioenergy,
Evolution and Phylogenetics, Microarray Data Analysis, Functional Genomics, MicroRNA, High Performance Bio-Computing, Pathways, Networks,
Systems Biology, Comparative Genomics, Biomedical Applications, SNPs and Haplotying, Biological Data Visualization, Promoter Analysis
and Discovery, Protein Structure and Complexes, and Biological Data Mining.
Although this list is quite long, it is intended only to show the diversity of topics we are interested in sponsoring.
